Stock Yards is a respectable meat delivery company that started out as a retail butcher shop in 1893, at a time when meat transportation was still a novelty. Since its inception, the company has focused on high-quality meat of the kind served in fine restaurants and hotels.

Over the years, it went through several transformations, from a family-owned shop and later restaurant supplier to a mail-order business. In 2000, it was acquired by US Foods but remained true to its roots and original quality standards.

While best-known for its premium steaks, Stock Yards boasts an immense selection of products, ranging from beef, veal, lamb, and pork to seafood, meals, and more. Whether you just want to give its products a taste or are interested in becoming a member of one of its meat clubs, this Stock Yards review contains all the information you need to know before placing an order.

How Stock Yards Works

For your convenience, Stock Yards offers 2 distinct ordering options. You can shop with no commitments and no minimum order values and get anything you are craving whenever you want. The other way to purchase Stock Yards products is by joining one of the 2 monthly clubs. With this option, you get to enjoy regular deliveries of premium meats pre-selected by the company’s expert team.

If you decide to shop commitment-free, you can handpick items from as many as 9 categories, including Steaks, Veal & Lamb, Roasts, Seafood, Pork, Burgers & Hot Dogs, Appetizers & Sides, Desserts, and Collections (meat and meal packs). There are over 70 products on offer. We will browse them all by type in the Products section of this Stock Yards review.

In case you prefer monthly subscriptions, you can choose between the Stock Yards club and the Steakhouse club. Stock Yards is the more affordable of the 2 clubs and it brings you some of the company’s best products, including premium steaks, ribs, steak burgers, roasts, chops, and more. Steakhouse brings you similar products, but deliveries include about twice as much meat as you get in Stock Yards subscription boxes.

With both clubs, you can choose between the 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month subscriptions and pick the starting month that works for you. The content of each upcoming box is disclosed in advance, so there are no surprises. Deliveries are made monthly and you can cancel your subscription at the end of the subscription period.

What Makes Stock Yards Different

Aiming to outdo the competition, Stock Yards primarily focuses on the highest-grade meat. That means that with this service, you get to enjoy USDA Prime, USDA Choice, and certified Angus cuts. Every cut you get is hand-trimmed by a team of master butchers. Each steak in your delivery is dry-aged or wet-aged in a controlled environment where it gets to slowly mature until it is optimally tender and has a deep flavor.

Going a step further, Stock Yards provides all the key elements that make an unforgettable meal. Along with the finest meat, it offers wine pairings and ready-made desserts, appetizers, and sides, all available for individual purchase as well as within convenient meal packs that save you time when planning your carnivorous feast.

For that special meat lover in your life, Stock Yards has prepared customizable electronic gift cards that can include your own photos and even your own video for that truly personal touch. If you know exactly what the giftee loves, you can browse the luxurious meals from the Collections section, all of which are giftable. Business gifts are also available.

Since this company truly cares about pleasing its patrons, it does everything it can to ensure you stay a loyal customer even if an undesired issue arises. If there is something wrong with your order, there is no need to worry since every delivery is covered by Stock Yards’ satisfaction guarantee. Just reach out to the service’s support staff and you can get a replacement or a refund. For more good news, the satisfaction guarantee covers gifts as well, which is not the case with many services of the same kind.

Stock Yards Products

Previously in this Stock Yards review, we took a quick look at all product categories and the 2 meat clubs at your disposal. As promised, we will now help you get better acquainted with every segment of the company’s offer. Let us start by exploring product categories one by one and then proceed to the 2 types of subscription boxes.

Steaks

The Steaks section contains more than a dozen gourmet steaks, USDA certified and carefully selected, trimmed, and aged. You can opt for complete-trim or barrel-cut filet mignon, New York strip, porterhouse, bone-in or boneless ribeye, tenderloin tips or cubes, filet of top sirloin, London broil or center-cut skirt steak.

You can purchase steaks in individual or mixed packs. Usually, the minimum pack weight is 16 ounces.

Veal & Lamb

When it comes to veal and lamb, your choice is a bit limited. Most of the time, you can opt for veal rib chops, lamb rib chops, lamb porterhouse chops or rack of lamb. Packs usually weigh 2+ pounds.

Roasts

With roasts, you can choose from about half a dozen options. You can get bone-in or boneless prime rib roast, Chateaubriand tenderloin roast, pre-seared boneless prime rib, five-bone natural pork roast or spiral-sliced ham. Products in this section include USDA Prime and USDA Choice cuts.

Seafood

When in the mood for seafood, you can buy and cook flash-frozen ocean delights like jumbo shrimps, Atlantic salmon filets, and Alaskan halibut filets. Alternatively, you can opt for surf & turf packs or ready-made dishes like crab cakes, bacon-wrapped scallops or salmon Wellington.

Pork

As far as pork is concerned, the company’s offer normally includes pre-cooked and uncooked baby back ribs, center-cut pork chops, and pork ham. The packs are not small and start at about 4 pounds.

Burgers & Hot Dogs

In the Burgers & Hot Dogs section, you can find about half a dozen products. You can get regular-sized or mini steak burgers, chipotle pork burgers, Chicago beef franks, and other grillable treats. The smallest pack weighs about 3 pounds.

Appetizers & Sides

With nearly a dozen appetizers and side dishes, you are sure to find something that goes well with the cut of your choice. You can mix premium meat with the finest seafood and enrich your meal with lobster and shiitake mushroom puffs or start it off with ready-made scallop, crab, and salmon appetizers.

Also available are beef appetizers and even beef entrées, which could not be deduced from the category name. Finally, you can get veggie sides, like twice-baked potatoes or stuffed artichoke hearts.

Desserts

If you want to end your meal with something sweet, you can choose from around 10 options. These include but are not limited to peach and berry pie, blueberry coffee cake, chocolate decadence cake, apple galette, and cheesecake party wheel.

Collections

As explained earlier in this Stock Yards review, the Collections section features handy packs that make it easier to make a gorgeous meal or throw an awesome BBQ party. You can opt for meat-only packs, surf & turf combinations or collections containing everything necessary to effortlessly prepare a good meal, including the finest meat, rubs and spices, and ready-made sides and desserts.

The Stock Yards Club

The Stock Yards club brings you monthly deliveries of the highest-quality meats, including USDA Prime and USDA Choice cuts. Normally, the boxes feature a single product type and contain 24 to 56 ounces of meat, depending on how luxurious the currently featured product is.

To help you get a sense of what you can expect to get, here are some examples of Stock Yards subscription box contents. You can get 4 six-ounce lamb porterhouse chops, 12 eight-ounce USDA Prime steak burgers or 4 six-ounce USDA Choice complete-trim filet mignons.

Be sure to check what the company has planned for the future boxes, so you can make sure the selection suits your taste. Since the longest subscription period is a year, the service lets you know what you can get in the following 12 months.

The Steakhouse Club

Just like the Stock Yards club, the Steakhouse club provides the highest-quality meat, USDA Prime and Choice included, and you get to know in advance what the following 12 boxes will contain. As pointed out earlier in this Stock Yards review, the main difference between the 2 clubs is that Steakhouse brings you larger quantities of meat.

In your monthly delivery, you can expect to get 4 twelve-ounce USDA Prime New York strip steaks, 4 sixteen-ounce USDA Choice porterhouse steaks, an oven-roasted turkey or 2 racks of lamb, each weighing 24 ounces. As you can see, the selection is quite diverse and you get to enjoy more than just handcrafted steaks.

Since Stock Yards provides meat of exceptional quality, the prices of its products are not low, but they are not unreasonable either. Subscriptions start at about $60 per month and individual items start at approximately $10 per pound.

If you opt for the Stock Yards monthly subscription, you can get:

Stock Yards Pros And Cons

To make sure Stock Yards meets all your standards and expectations, it is important to know its biggest advantages and disadvantages. With a short overview of its pros and cons, you can easily decide if Stock Yards is the right company for you.

Pros
  • Premium-quality beef, veal, lamb, and pork
  • Hand-trimmed, dry-aged, and wet-aged cuts
  • Over 70 products on offer
  • Extras including seafood and ready-made dishes
  • Monthly subscriptions for meat lovers
  • Customizable personal and corporate gifts
  • Commitment-free ordering
  • Satisfaction guarantee

Cons

  • Shipping is not free
  • Not suitable for every budget

Bottom Line

With Stock Yards, your satisfaction is always guaranteed and every delivery you get contains only the highest-quality cuts. You can order with or without a subscription, enjoy great meat on your own or send it as a gift, and choose from a vast range of extras that can elevate your dining experience.

The only potential downsides of the service are that it is not the cheapest on the market and it does not offer free shipping even if you subscribe. However, premium meat generally does not come with a low price tag, which is why we cannot count this as a flaw per se.

Based on our experience and research, Stock Yards is one of the finer mail-order solutions for discerning carnivores and it boasts an offer that is more than worth a taste.

I’ve been ordering from Stock yards for years. Their meats are always top quality and well priced. Their customer service department is world class – on the rare occasion that I’ve needed them. Highly recommend them.

Not sure if it’s because I’ve recently switched from vegan to meat, but these may be the best steaks I’ve had in, like, forever. I’d never heard of SY before, it didn’t sound familiar, but it did sound cool and I was, like, why not, I needed to get some meat anyway and I was feeling lazy so delivery sounded perfect. I agree that it’s not cheap but it’s really not that expensive either or am I just used to paying a lot for meat, I don’t know, anyway, I’m thinking of ordering again next week, I’ll update my review if it the meat doesn’t turn out to be as good.

Great service, ok prices, the meat is real tender and they do an awesome job aging it so it has that restaurant flavor. I just think that the packs should be smaller, so I could order different cuts without getting too much meat.
